About crux
Crux was launched into the UK market in the spring of 2002. It was founded by Carol McDermott, a New Zealander now living in France. Carol is an alpinist with extensive experience stretching from New Zealand’s Southern Alps to the Himalaya, the Karakorum, Patagonia and the European Alps. He has worked both for several British brands and as a freelance designer.
Crux is fully owned by Outdoor Design Logistics, a British registered company with an office and warehouse based outside Leeds. A small European warehouse is maintained in Belgium. Design and marketing is carried out from our small office near the foothills of the Pyrenees.
Crux designs, manufactures and sells gear that has been developed purely for climbing. Our market is technical and small – not an obvious recipe for commercial success, which is why so few brands today are truly specialist. Hardware aside, most climbing products represent a compromise that can be sold to a broader market. At crux, we remain passionately committed to delivering specialist product designed by and for climbers, manufactured and marketed on a commercial scale.
